Pat Testing

What is PAT Testing and is it a Legal Requirement?

It is a statutory requirement to ensure that your electrical equipment is safe for use by your employees. Many insurance companies require the insured to comply with all current regulations. This includes the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, which state that "As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as reasonably practicable, such danger".

Please refer to the legal info section.

Why should we PAT Test

All business from the corner shop, to large corporate companies and every business in between need to maintain their electrical appliances whether permanently connected or connected by a plug and socket-outlet.
What needs to be carried out to comply with current legislation?

  1. Users check. The user should check leads and general condition prior to use.
  2. Formal visual inspection (without test). We can carry this out if required.
  3. Combined inspection and test. We can carry this out if required.
  4. Performing maintenance. (Depends on the appliance).
  5. Keeping up-to-date records that can be used as a means of showing your compliance. We will issue certificates of test results we also store them on line for your retrieval through our unique client log in.

Frequency of testing

The frequency of testing depends on the location of the appliance and type of appliance combined inspection and testing can be between every three months to every forty-eight months.
e.g. Every three months would be all appliances used on construction sites, but every forty-eight months for stationary equipment in an office. We will work with you and draw up an agreeable schedule for you.

An important part of Portable Appliance Testing is labelling the appliances with the current safety status and retest dates ensuring users are aware of when the item is due to be tested again for electrical safety. We use a test & tag labelling system which not only produces all of the above but also includes an asset barcode.
